Training

Adamo Equestrian provides top notch training for your horse in a concise, productive environment. Training sessions are structured to get the best possible performance from your horse. We offer several training programs in a building block system explained below.

Ground Training- Great for young/green horses. Use of natural horsemanship techniques and also ground driving/long lining develop suppleness, forward movement and most importantly obedient and cooperative behavior. We also teach young horses to stand for the vet and farrier.
We can also prep your young horse for in-hand showing on the line. With experience at shows such as the International Hunter Futurity, Upperville Horse and Colt Show, and the Feathered Horse Classic we are able to prep your young horse for successful  showing anywhere.

Starting and Green Breaking- We have a successful system for starting your young horse under saddle. At this beginning phase we teach your young horse to be forward, relaxed and obedient to the riders aids. Once horses are able to work proficiently in the ring we move on to some light trail work. Horses coming in for starting and green breaking need to stay for 90 days minimum.

Driving for Pleasure and/or Performance- Trainer Ashley Jenkins specializes in starting horses and ponies of any age in harness and schooling experienced driving horses.Training will include bitting, long-reining, hitching and driving in the arena, basic dressage, introduction to cones and other obstacles, and eventually driving out of the arena. A minimum number of driving lessons are mandantory once the horse is deemed to be proficiect at a reasonable level for the owner(s)/driver(s) expertise.

Dressage Schooling- For those of you wishing to remain on the ground as opposed to over fences we do offer a lower level dressage training program. We will teach your horse to be responsive to your aids, to collect and extend gaits, and also to bend laterally.

Schooling the Young Hunter- In this phase of training we encourage the horse to be rhythmic and consistent in pace. We begin to introduce flat work elements such as cavaletti and small jumps. In this phase we also introduce your horse to many elements they may see in either the show ring or the hunt field. Light contact is used with an emphasis on teaching the horse to accept the bit and bend slightly at the poll, rounding throughout the topline.

Hunter Training- Preparing your horse to show in a recognized division at "A" rated shows. We can prep your baby green all the way up to your working hunter horses.

Field Hunter Training- Our field hunter training is a great way to introduce your horse to the sport of foxhunting or even as a great prep for cross-country. Your horse can be broken to hounds, whip and gun, and will be ridden primarily outside of the ring. Field hunter training can also be combined with a package to get your horse foxhunting.
